Daniel Friesen was elected Reno County Commissioner for District #3 in November of 2020. Commissioner Friesen served nearly three terms as mayor of Buhler being first elected at the age of 27. Mr. Friesen is also the co-founder and chief innovation officer of IdeaTek, a rural fiber optic broadband company which is headquartered in Reno County. Friesen has led the redevelopment of StartUp Hutch as its most recent chairman. StartUp Hutch is an entrepreneurial development organization focused on growing the Reno County tax base more organically through local business development.
Friesen serves on the boards of the Hutchinson/ Reno County Community Foundation, Buhler Community Foundation, and FISPA and currently advises the FCC on competitive infrastructure access matters as a member of a broadband deployment working group. He enjoys aviation and is a licensed private pilot with an instrument rating. Commissioner Friesen and his wife, Sarah, have four children.
