Is it possible to get some of the compost from the landfill? What is it used for?: The compost is not give-away material as we use it for cover for establishing the grass slopes.

Landfill

These are separate locations for all vehicles. Items include:

Appliances/Metal
- Refrigerators, microwaves, dryers, washers,all metal products
Brush
- Anything under 24inches in diameter and under 15ft long on tree stumps, (NO household trash or home lumber allowed)
Compost
- Absolutely NO trash in compost! ( Acceptable waste is Grass clippings,Leaves)
Construction and Demolition
- Fencing, treated and untreated wood, roofing, wood shake shingles, siding, asphalt, windows, house demolitions/remodels, tile, concrete (we also have a concrete pile for clean concrete only), stumps over 24inches in diameter, NOT accepted in Demo: NO household trash, cups, pop bottles, tar buckets, caulking tubes, paint cans, tires
Municipal Solid Waste (Trash)
All household trash, toys, tv's, furniture
Tires (no tires over 23.5 will be accepted at this time)

Businesses will be charged per ton for tires, special waste, and construction and demolition items. Click here for user fees.

2. What does it cost to bring trash to the landfill?: There is no charge for Reno County residents to bring trash to the landfill.

3. How will I know where to dump my trash when I get to the landfill?: All vehicles must weigh in at the scale. You will be given directions from there where to take your items.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open to all Reno County citizens not businesses. Hazardous waste includes:

ALL Household Hazardous Waste may not exceed 10 gallons at a time and be in 5 gallon containers or less.

5. How can I get a Special Waste Permit?: To obtain a Special Waste Permit Application, please call Tony Guy with KDHE at 785-296-1600 or call the Reno County Landfill at 620-694-2586.

6. What is E-Waste?: E-Waste consists of discarded electronic devices or components. This term is commonly used to describe computer electronics: computer monitors, keyboards, CPUs, etc. Other household and business electronics may be classified as E-Waste also.

The landfill no longer has a E-Waste program but we will still accept electronics at the landfill.
