Sgt. Don Evans retires from Reno County Sheriff's Office

Sergeant Don Evans will retire from the Reno County Sheriff's Office on April 30, 2023. 

After graduating high school in Michigan, Sergeant Don Evans spent three years in the Army as a medic with the 1st Engineer Battalion stationed at Ft Riley Kansas. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he relocated to Hutchinson to be near family. He began employment with the Dept. of Corrections at the facility we now know as Hutchinson Correctional Facility until February of 1984.

On Feb 28th, 1984, Don was hired by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy and worked the floor in the jail. During this time in the Jail, he decided to go to work for the Hutchinson Police Department and his last day at that time was November 1st, 1985. Don applied for a road position with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, he was hired by Sheriff Fountain at the time and began his employment with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office again on May 22nd, 1989. As a Patrolman Don accomplished many things during this stint of employment with the Sheriff’s Office. A review of his personnel file revealed many letters of commendation.

Don was successful in many capacities, to include being the Current Sheriffs 1St Phase and final Phase Field Training Officer on Patrol in 1994. Don resigned from the Sheriff’s Office again on March 31st, 1996, after 6years and 10 months of service.

He went to work for Master Machine & Tools in South Hutchinson for a period. Then moved to Arkansas in 1999 where he worked in a plant that made auto parts. In 2003, Don and his family moved to Michigan where he drove for a freight firm until 2009 when the auto industry economy dropped.

Don realized he needed to come back home, and he reapplied at the Sheriff’s Office again. With open arms Don began employment on April 20th, 2009, to work in the Jail. On September 27th, 2010, he was recognized for his performance and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Evans has spent close to the last 13 years coaching and mentoring young Deputies on how to perform their job. Sergeant Evans last day of employment will be on the April 30th, 2023.

Collectively Sergeant Don Evans has successfully worked for over 22 years at the Sheriff’s Office and provided a great service to the Citizens of Reno County.
