Grant Opportunities
The Kansas Department of Corrections currently has several grant opportunities open for application to support services for juveniles and their families in local communities.
The following three grants can be applied for directly by community agencies or service providers:
FY24 Supporting Community Organizations in Improving Outcomes for Juvenile Offenders and Families Grant application can be found here. Total funding available for this opportunity is $1,500,000.00.
This grant is open to community non-profit organizations for the development and implementation of evidence-based community programs and practices for juvenile offenders and juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and their families.
Eligible Applicants: Community Non-Profit Organizations
Submission Deadline: March 17, 2023, at 5:00 pm

FY24 Non-Matching Crime Prevention Community Grant application can be found here. Total funding available for this opportunity is $1,000,000.00.
This grant is to help support communities in providing services to youth that are at risk for juvenile delinquency, victimization, and juvenile justice system involvement.
Eligible Applicants: Governmental Entities and Community-based Agencies or Service Providers
Submission Deadline: April 14, 2023

FY24 Matching Crime Prevention Community Grant application can be found here. Total funding available for this opportunity is $500,000.00 and this grant requires a $1-for-$1 match from the applicant.
This grant is to help support communities in providing services to youth that are at risk for juvenile delinquency, victimization, and juvenile justice system involvement.

In addition to the three grants listed above, three other grant opportunities are open for application by our local judicial district for evidence-based programs and practices for juvenile offenders and juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and their families. If local organizations or service providers are interested in submitting a proposal to enter into a partnership to provide such services, contact Jessica Susee, Reno County Youth Services, (620) 694-2500, the point of contact for those proposals. These grants are not open for direct application by community organizations or providers. Application for funds with these grants require approval from the Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board and Board of County Commission prior to submission to KDOC by the County for consideration. Each of these grants are for two years of funding: 7/1/23-6/30/25. Unexpended funds will be returned to KDOC at the end of the award period. Available funds include:
FY24-25 Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board Grant – total funding available for this opportunity is $326,381.06.
Funding through this opportunity may be used for evidence-based practices and programs in the community for use by intake and assessment services, immediate intervention, probation and conditional release; and training on evidence-based practices for juvenile justice system staff, including but not limited to training in cognitive behavioral therapies, family-centered therapies, substance abuse, sex offender therapy and other services that address a juvenile’s risks and needs. Expenditures shall be for the development and implementation of evidence-based community programs and practices for juvenile offenders, juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and their families.
Award Period: July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2025

FY24-25 Juvenile Reinvestment Grant – Total funding available for this opportunity is $101,024.00.
Funding through this opportunity may be used for evidence-based practices and programs in the community for use by intake and assessment services, immediate intervention, probation and conditional release; and training on evidence-based practices for juvenile justice system staff, including but not limited to training in cognitive behavioral therapies, family-centered therapies, substance abuse, sex offender therapy and other services that address a juvenile’s risks and needs. Expenditures shall be for the development and implementation of evidence-based community programs and practices for juvenile offenders, juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and their families.
Award Period: July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2025

FY24-25 Juvenile Regional Collaboration Grant – Total funding available for this opportunity is $500,000.00.
Funding through this opportunity may be used for evidence-based practices and programs in the community for use by intake and assessment services, immediate intervention, probation and conditional release; and training on evidence-based practices for juvenile justice system staff, including but not limited to training in cognitive behavioral therapies, family-centered therapies, substance abuse, sex offender therapy and other services that address a juvenile’s risks and needs. Expenditures shall be for the development and implementation of evidence-based community programs and practices for juvenile offenders, juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and their families. Only costs directly attributed to serving juvenile offenders and families are allowable through this grant. No more than (5) awards, each up to $500,000 will be awarded.
